About

The Costa Chica extends from Guerrero to the central coast of the state of Oaxaca, with an extension of 180 kilometers, its surface is flat and extends from the mouth of the Papagayo River and then towards the East. The main river that covers a large part of the region is the Nexpa River, the Ometepec River, and others also cover the eastern portion of the region and extend into the La Montaña region. Another important one is the Papagayo River, which covers part of the northwestern portion of the region, this basin mostly covers the Central region, On the other hand, the Costa Grande groups different basins that are short which have outlets to the sea, like the rivers of the Union, Ixtapa, San Jeronimito, San Luis, Tehan, Atoyac, and Coyuca. Within this region are those such as Petatlán, Coyuquilla, La Laja, La Tigra, and Atoyac, the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo beach is one of the most important since it is part of the triangle of the sun; which includes Acapulco, Taxco and Zihuatanejo.
